FAI index converter calculator

The FAI index calculator was developed to calculate the free androgen index (FAI).

Testosterone and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) concentrations should be measured to calculate the FAI. The tests should be performed on the same blood sample taken at the same time. Ideally, both tests should be performed in one laboratory.

The calculator enables the calculation of the FAI from the parameters determined at different concentrations. You can choose from:

testosterone concentration in concentration units:

  • nmol/L
  • ng/mL
  • ng/dL

SHBG concentration in concentration units:

  • nmol/L
  • μg/mL (mg/L)

The calculator will calculate the FAI in units for each configuration.

The calculation of the FAI index shows the concentration of testosterone not bound to albumin.

FAI index calculator converter – calculate it

To calculate the free androgen index, enter the testosterone and SHBG values, and then select the concentration units. The calculator will calculate the FAI.

FAI index converter calculator. How to calculate?

To calculate the FAI, use the following formula:

FAI [%]= ([testosterone concentration in nmol/L] / [SHBG concentration in nmol/L]) *100

For test results in other units – please use the appropriate conversion factors that you will find in the related calculators.
